So Diwali is a festival which is celebrated in India mainly and also many other parts of the world, especially by Indians, of course. But it's a festival of light. It's a festival of joy. It's a festival of togetherness. It is the time when we reconnect with our friends, family and relatives. It's festival of communities. It's the festival of light. As I said, there are a lot of firecrackers, lamp. There are lots of other festivities. And as grand as this festival is, it also provides a lot of life lessons and the lessons for personal growth. So in this episode, I thought when Diwali is just two days ahead of us, I thought, why not decode some of the life lessons and some of the lessons of personal growth that Diwali and the way we celebrate Diwali provides us, right? So in this episode, we are going to decode all those life lessons, right? So we will dive deep into those lessons. But before we start this episode today, I just want to say thank you so much. So thank you so much for always supporting me. And please keep supporting as you have always done. Thank you so much. And without further delay, let's dive into that episode. Hi, My name is Akshay Tiwari. I'm a holistic happiness coach, author of the book named Usher, and the founder of Holistic Happiness Club. Holistic Happiness Club is a place where we understand that happiness is. It's not a single faceted thing. It's a multifaceted thing. And that is why in Holistic Happiness Club we treat happiness as a holistic thing. We look at all the perspective, all the things, all the aspects of happiness, everything that is connected to our life, that is also the part of our happiness as well. Be it our health, risk, relationship, wealth, money, career, business, etc, anything. All right, so we talk about all the aspects of our life because they are connected with our happiness as well. So more about me and more about Holistic Happiness Club at the end of the episode. For now, sit back, relax and enjoy the episode of the day. All right, so let's start the episode of the day and let's understand the first lesson that we get from Diwali's festival. And the first lesson is decluttering. For clarity, many of you might know who has celebrated Diwali or who has seen the celebration of Diwali. It is the time of the year when we clean our home, when we find out all the garbage, all the things that we are not using and maybe we will throw them as well, or maybe we will donate them and if possible, we try to sell them as well. So we do that in order. I mean, it is told to us by our ancestors that it is the time that we have to clean our home. But there is a deeper message behind that, that if you have a lot of clutter, a lot of unused thing, a lot of things that are not very useful for you in your home, it is, it is taking up the space, it is taking up the energy, and it is not allowing you to move forward. It is not allowing the space in which new things and better things can come up, right? So it is time that you declutter. Diwali says that. So what we can infer from that, what we can understand from this lesson, it's very simple that you have to declutter time to time. So our ancestors gave us this festival that every year around this time, you have to clean. And it is a very apt time because the rain season is ending, so all, all of those damp, etc, it's going away now. And it is time that new things are going to start. So this is very apt time for decluttering, cleaning and repainting our homes. And so likewise, you can also decide for yourself and why not this in this Diwali festival? Why not on this grand festival when we are celebrating, when everyone is celebrating, why not you also declutter? Why not you also let go of your emotional baggage, let go of your past heart and open your heart for the new abundance and open your heart for the miracles that can happen. Also, about the physical environment, as I told just now that in the Diwali festival, we are cleaning and we are decluttering. So your physical environment, it can also be, you can make it tidy, you can clean it. So that also gives you the kind of space, it gives you the kind of feeling, good feeling that okay, now it is declutter. Because however, in whichever kind of environment you are, it creates an impact on your mental health, mental space as well, right? So clean your physical environment, clean your mental space, release your negative thoughts, embrace Positive mindset. Repaint your mindset. I mean create new belief systems, create new, you know, mindset and create new ideas for yourself and fill yourself with positivity on this festival. And if not this festival for so many people, New year is that time that they, that they want to do this. But anytime is good, right? So why not this Diwali festival? Why not every quarter? Why not every four months, three months? Why not every month? Why not give yourself like 15 minutes or half an hour or one hour of time every month? One hour in a month is bare minimum. Anyone can give to themselves and release your mental blockages, negative thoughts, whatever is holding you back, right? So that's the message that we can carry from the decluttering of Diwali. Second thing, rituals for renewals. So in Diwali there are so many rituals. So we do the worship of Ganesh and Lakshmi and as I said, there is cleaning, there is repainting, there is decluttering of old things. We know we let go of those old things. Sometimes we sell them, sometimes we donate them, etc, sometimes we discard them. And there is another ritual that you have to buy new clothes and you need to sit in the puja in at the time of worshiping. You need to sit there with the new clothes. And also there are so much of lighting of the lamp and so many rituals are there, right? So all those rituals, what they are telling to you is that this is a new start, right? When you do those rituals, when you go through all of those rituals, it creates an image in your head that it's a new start, it's a new year, it's a new start of the year. Maybe it's not the new calendar year, neither by the Gregorian calendar nor by the Hindu Panchang, but it's a new start of the year, it's a new time of the year. And by all this ritual, by repainting your home, by buying your new, by your buying yourself new clothes, it is marking that something new is going to start. So likewise, you can also create rituals for yourself which will mark a new start, which will let go of problematic things. Like we let go of the old things in Diwali festival, right? So you can have writing rituals, right? You can have morning gratitude, you can have midday reflection, you can have evening release, you can have either one of them or you can have all three of them or you can have something else about writing. So which will help you release your emotions, which will help you let go of the past, which will help you forgive someone or which Will help you count your blessings, etc. All right? Which might help you to be creative, to express yourself, whatever it is. So you can have some writing rituals on a daily basis, on a weekly basis, which will mark that, okay, from here on, something new you are going to start something old you are letting go, right? So that kind of ritual you can follow, you can start some kind of grounding rituals like walking on the grass, yoga, meditation, pranayama, or any other kind of, you know, grounding rituals. So breathing exercises are there, as I said, pranayama is there. And if anything else works with you, like savoring, walk, going out in the nature, as I said, walking on the grass, soaking the sun and being in the nature, listening to natural sounds like wind blowing, birds chirping, etc, all these things are very much grounding. So you can have some grounding ritual which will help you ground the negativity and it will help you start new things. And it will, literally scientifically, it will help you start new things in your body. You know, when you are in nature, when you are doing these kind of things like walking on the grass, yoga, meditation, you are signaling your body, that body is functioning well and you are improving the function of your body as well. At the same time, it's like exercising. With exercise, a lot of old cells gets burned out and new cells gets reproduced, right? So all these kind of rituals you can do, grounding rituals you can do for renovation, right? Likewise, you can follow some rituals for your health and movement. Like you can keep fast, you can observe fast for let's say 4 hours, 12 hours, 20, 20 hours, 24 minutes and 68 seconds, 48 hours, whatever suits your body, whatever you can handle, right? You can do some exercising, you can go on walks, you can opt for some sports. So these kind of rituals you can start which will mark a renew, renewed start of something in your life. And also it will help you be mentally and physically healthy. So these kind, these three kind of rituals, I found that these are the top rituals, writing rituals, grounding rituals and health and movement. Some ritual for health and movement, right? Which will help you gain more health and move your body a little bit more. So any kind, whatever you like, you can pick, you can pick all of them. You can pick one from each section and whatever, or you think that, okay, in this particular of time of life, I need this particular ritual for now. You can start that as well. Because Diwali, in Diwali there is also just before Diwali there is one another festival just two days back that is called Dhanteras. And in that on that day we usually buy something new. So again, it's a ritual that shows that, that it is the time that you buy something new, that you start something new. And it's not like that. Every year, whatever you need, you are going to buy on dhanteras. No, whatever you need, but whatever your budget also allows you, you buy one thing on the on one particular Dante. And whatever is remaining, you may buy next antheras. So likewise, whatever your life needs right now, that kind of ritual you can start right now. And whatever later on when you improve upon this particular thing, you can start another ritual as well. All right, so that was the second life lesson from Diwali. Third life lesson. Before I get into the third life lesson, I have a very special request that if you are listening to this podcast on itunes or Spotify, they have a very special feature where you can rate this podcast up to five stars. So my special request, my humble request to all of you is that you rate this podcast up to five star and let me know your feedback, let me know what you like about this podcast, what you don't like about this podcast, what else is there which I can speak about? If there is any question that you want to ask to me and if there is anything that I can improve upon, I am very open to listen to all of you. So please rate this podcast up to five star on iTunes or Spotify wherever you are listening to this. Also, if you are listening to this on YouTube, please like this video, please share this with others and subscribe to the channel. Thank you so much. This was my special request and let's, let's move on to the next part. So next ritual is rekindling connection. And as I said, it's a community festival. It's the time where we reconnect with our family, with our friends and other people, other relatives and people who are familiar to us, people who are neighbors to us. So likewise, and science has proven time and again that the best medicine for all those kind of negative depressive emotions, you know, anxiety, feeling low, low confidence, all these things can half cured or more than more than half cured by connecting with people, by socializing. If you are socializing, your chances of feeling depressed or getting depressive thoughts gets reduced by a significant number. I don't exactly recall the number, but it's a significant number. Okay, so it is time. It is the reminder that people that that human is a social animal and we need to go out a little bit more and we need to connect with people a little bit more. Now having said that, it does not mean that you should have hundreds of people in your life. If you have some meaningful connection with your family, some friends maybe, if it is, if there is one friend or two friend, that's enough. And if you have a loving relationship with your partner, that's it. And a kind of good relation with your neighbors and community people, right? Wherever you are working, wherever you are going, etc. Right, that's enough. If that satisfies you, if you want more people to be in your life, yes. For by all means go ahead and make more friends, right? Connect with more people. But it means all I'm trying to say is that you should have a level of satisfaction with the kind of relationship that relationship that you are having with your spouse, with family member, with friends and with the people around you. Okay? So this is the time that you take a look that where you can improve. What else you can do for your people, for your family, for your spouse, for your partner, for your friends, what else you can do any small act, right? So rekindle your connection. Connect with them. Connect with them on a heart to heart level. This is Diwali is the reminder for that. All right, Next is embracing abundance. All right, as I just explained, how do we celebrate Diwali? We clear all the old things, all right? And we buy new things on Dhan Teras as well. And we buy new clothes, we repaint the whole house. And everybody, sometimes not everyone is having that kind of money to do every other thing. But everyone celebrates Diwali to the best of their capacity, right? Leaving behind the mindset that I don't have this much money from the mindset that okay, let me do the best whatever I can on this festival with whatever I have, right? So the state of money does not change it. It is not like on the day of Diwali suddenly there will be windfall of ten thousand rupees or one lakh or ten lakh rupees. No, your bank balance is going to be the same. What you do is you change your mindset that because Diwali is coming, I need to prepare myself to the best of my ability to celebrate this festival for my family, for myself, for my kids, for my partner, for my parents or etc. Right? So this is what I'm trying to say, that this is a reminder that you need to change your mindset. You need to recognize your blessing, you need to share generously and that is the way you attract more prosperity. And this is the message of Diwali as well. That more better you celebrate it. And as I said that we worship Ganesh and Lakshmi. So Ganesh, it is the God of wisdom, right? And Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth. So this is what we, we worship on the day of Diwali. By spending more money, by worshiping, by sharing generously, by counting our blessing, by representing ourselves in a best possible manner. By feeling like, okay, we have enough. So that is the message, that very, very profound message that Diwali passes on. That the better mindset you have around money, the abundance mindset you have around money, more prosperity you are going to attract, more you will count your blessings, more prosperity you are going to attract, more you are going to share generously, more prosperity, more wealth, more money you are going to attract. So embrace the mindset of prosperity, of abundance and leave behind the mindset of lack of poverty. Okay, so this is the message of Diwali. Hope you get it. All right, so the next one is illuminating inner light. On the day of Diwali we lit Diya. So many diya actually. So let me tell you this story. Why we lit the Diya on the day of Diwali. So there is this small story that when Lord Rama killed Ravan and when he was coming back, it was the day of a day of Amarsha which means the day of new moon. So there was no light in the night time. So the whole city, they lit the dias to celebrate the. So to celebrate to. To inform or to celebrate that Lord Rama, their beloved, beloved Yuvraj or the prince is coming. Okay, so to celebrate they lit the Diya. So this is the tradition, this is the story behind that. But what I'm trying to say here is that the way we like lit the Diya to lit the whole night to do away with the darkness of the night. Similarly we can illuminate our inner light. And the way we illuminate our inner light is doing mindfulness practices, doing gratefulness practices, by doing forgiveness practices, by surrendering to the higher power, by discovering yourself, exploring your passion, uncovering your hidden talents and sharing your talents, sharing your gift and following your passion generously with everyone. And also by practicing self love which means nurture your self compassion and nurture yourself. Be in the discipline where you are making yourself priority in the sense that you are doing what is best for you, what is right for you, what is just for you. Right? Not whatever is coming to your mind. That's not self love, that's not. That's something else. Okay, so this is the Time that you self discover, you explore your passion. Recheck on your passions if you already know what your passions are. So recheck on your life, how much of your day you are spending on something else and how much percentage of your day you are spending on your passion, right? How much of the gift that you have that you are sharing with others. How much importance you are giving to your own health, your own well being. That is what self love is. And how much you are mindful about how you are spending time. How much you are grateful for the people, for the things, for the events that are happening around you, for. For your best possible highest good. How much you are practicing forgiveness, how much grudges you are holding and how much you are practicing surrender. So all these things, it is the time that you check on all these things and if there is any lacking, if there is any lack in any of those things, then you decide and devise some rituals so that you can put back all those things in your life so that you can come back again on the track. So that you can illuminate your inner light. All right? All right. So in the end I would say that there are a lot of life lesson but at the end this is the festival where we all are going to celebrate and there will be lots of festivities, new clothes, lot of firecrackers, lot of lamps, candles, you know, artificial lights also and a lot of sweets as well. So there will be so many things or my message here is that practice consciousness, practice mindfulness while you are celebrating, be mindful, savor your traditional dishes, savor sweets, but be mindful how much you are eating, right? Some of the things are not some, but any of the things in excess, nothing is good. So be mindful, whatever, however you are consuming any of those things, whatever you are doing, if you are using firecracker. I'm not against firecracker, but what I'm trying to say here be. Try to be little bit eco friendly, try to use firecrackers mindfully. Use them, don't abuse them, don't waste them, right? So that is what be sustainable, be conscious and be mindful. And when you are giving gifts, give thoughtful gifts, right? Focus more on experience, right? Don't be like, don't waste your resources, use them well. Again I'm not against sweet, I love sweet. I am going to eat a lot of sweets. So but what I'm trying to say, just be mindful, take care of your health as well. Again, I'm not against firecracker. I am also going to use firecrackers for my nephews and knees. And you can also use. But again, be mindful. Use them. Use your resources. Don't abuse them. So that is what that is my message on Diwali. Celebrate to the fullest. But again, be mindful and carry the spirit forward. Whatever you have learned from this podcast, carry it forward. Spread the light and help other people to grow. Help yourself to grow. Reflect on your own journey from where you have come, how far you have come, how far you still have to go. So this was the message on Diwali. This was some of the life lesson that I could draw from the celebration of Diwali and the festival of Diwali. So I thought to share with all of you. So this is the end of the topic of the day. But before I end this episode I have few announcements. First one is that I have written an ebook. The name of the ebook is the Happiness Blueprint.
